South Florida has art museums that can be enjoyed regardless of your age or your knowledge of art.

The Coral Springs Museum of Art originally opened in 1997. It is part of the Coral Springs Center for the Arts, which is a performing arts center that hosts concerts, plays, and cultural events. The museum’s mission is “to engage and connect our diverse community with dynamic exhibits, exceptional art education, stimulating specialty programs and inspired events to ignite cultural enrichment.” This museum also has a camp program that I attended when I was younger, and I highly recommend it for children and families.

The Nova Southeastern University Art Museum is in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. This museum, which opened in 1986, was designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. It’s permanent collection has more than 6,000 pieces of art. In addition to the permanent collection, this museum has been the temporary home to exhibits from all over the world, including art from the Vatican and ancient Egypt.

The Boca Raton Museum of Art has been part of the South Florida community for close to seven decades. It has a beautiful museum with classic and modern art exhibitions, as well as an art school and youth art classes and programming. It has always been one of my favorite museums in the area to visit..

The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is a contemporary art museum that was originally founded in 1984. Originally named the Center for the Fine Arts, it has changed names a number of times over the years. It houses a permanent collection of over 2,000 individual pieces, mostly 20th and 21st century art from North and South America, Europe, and Africa. The permanent collection includes pieces by artists John Baldessari, Olafur Eliasson, Cuban Painters Jose Bedia Valdes and Wilfredo Lam, Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Damian Ortega, and Colombian artist Beatriz Gonzalez. The modern building was designed by architects at Herzog and de Meuron Basel, Ltd., in Miami.

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum is located on the Florida International University Campus in Miami. It was originally opened in 1977 and called The Art Museum at Florida International University. The current facility was opened in 2008, and was designed by Yann Weymouth. There are nine total galleries, with the more than 6,000 permanent collection pieces kept in three of them. The other six galleries feature temporary exhibits. In the past few years, this museum has had exhibitions from artists from all over the world, including the Caribbean, East Asia, and India. And, as it always has, the Frost Art Museum has showcased the works of talented South Florida aritsts.
